Potential Swimmer FAQ
How old are your swimmers?
We are a Masters club, therefore all swimmers 19 and older are welcome to join. We presently have swimmers in their 20s as well as swimmers who are in their 80s.
When are the practices?
The Calgary Aquamums Swim
Monday: 8:00pm-9:30pm
Tuesday: 9:30am-11:30am
Thursday: 9:30am-11:30am
Thursday: 7:30pm-8:30pm
Do I need to attend all practices?
No, you can choose which practices you want to attend.
Team make up is largely based on ability, age, and choice of training times.
Typically, the morning practices are attended by swimmers who do not have to work during the day. Most will swim both Tuesday and Thursday (9:30am-11:30am).
The evening practices are commonly attended by swimmers who are working or attending post secondary education. Most will either swim Monday evening (8:00pm-9:30pm) or Thursday evening (7:30pm-8:30pm).
Where do the Calgary Aquamums practice?
The MNP Community and Sports Centre located at 2225 Macleod Trail SE, Calgary
What skill level do I need?
Previous artistic swimming experience is required. Don’t worry if you haven’t swam (in several years) as the basics come back quickly. You should also be a strong swimmer as our entire practice is in deep water.
Are there opportunities to compete locally and abroad?
Yes. The Calgary Aquamums compete yearly at the Alberta provincials and will travel on occasion to compete locally in Canada and the USA as well as world events put on by World Aquatics and Pan Am Aquatic Masters Championships.
Do I need to compete at competitions to swim?
No. Although most swimmers do compete, you are welcome to come and practice with us as a recreational swimmer.
When does the season start?
The season starts on the 3rd Monday in September and generally ends in the spring of the following year, depending on the timing of competitions.
What are the training fees?
The Calgary Aquamums is a not for profit organization and therefore the swim fees are calculated on a yearly basis. Fees will vary season to season depending on pool rental prices and the type of events in which a member chooses to compete. Once club fees are determined, the club treasurer will send out these costs to members.
What is in the name?
The Aquamums were founded in 1967 and were named for the chrysanthemum flower, in part to complement the Aquabelles.
